Intro

SPEAKER_01

Hey guys, just a heads up, this episode was recorded kind of late notice when Chad and I were in person together in Colorado, and our microphone setup was a bit shit to say the least. So it's still listenable, but it's definitely uh a bit worse than our typical episodes. But if you want to see us, you know, in person together interacting, this is the episode for you. So if anything, if you usually only listen to the episodes, this is a good one to watch. Uh yeah. Hope you enjoy. We didn't play anything. No, we didn't. I was really hoping. We're here in person! We're in person. Uh welcome back to another episode of the objective uh You do it.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to the Objectively Bad podcast. My name is Chad. I'm with my co-host Dan. How are we feeling today, Dan? Tired! Yes, we are. We've been doing a lot of fun things. That's why this is coming out late. But Dan, I'd say we're having a pretty good time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's been good. Uh I'm sure some of you may know. I have come over. Yeah, yeah, you can take the mic. Yeah, before we actually get into anything, the mic setup on this podcast is kind of fucked.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

So it's a good start. The audio is a bit shit. Just deal with it. It's a podcast. Audio's not there important. The podcast, the audio is not that important, right, guys? So

Dan’s Trip to the US & Canada

SPEAKER_01

yeah, but some of you might know I've been on holiday in America. I don't know which camera to look at. We have two cameras, by the way, so I'm gonna be switching between going back and forth. Yeah. Uh I've come out to Seattle for a few days, then Vancouver. We were both in Vancouver, and now I'm in Colorado in Cad's room. So like I'm on the other side. Then uh usual. It's pretty cool. Yeah. Uh it's been good. I've we I mean there's a lot of stuff we can talk about. I came out obviously to see my boy and some other people, but mainly for the World Cup matches. I came, we went to watch Australia Bus Turkey. True. Great game. Australia won. Australia won. Always fun. So that was great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, especially otherwise. Uh no, it's been great otherwise. Dan's been having a great time. Uh Vancouver was very nice. If you haven't been and you have the ability, generally speaking, very nice city. Yeah, check it out. Uh Vancouver specifically at this moment in time was very fun because they have like multiple streets blocked off for just pure like FIFA World Cup action. Very fun. A bunch of games going on. Like I arrived, I think the day the game started. Late in the day, but like we were there for a good portion of there being game. So whenever we had downtime, we were usually watching a game, whether that was going out to a bar and seeing it with people, whether that was just chilling at the hotel and putting it on. Um shout out Vancouver. This is not sponsored by the entire city of Vancouver, but the entire city of Vancouver, pay us. Pretty good. We'll say good things at the moment.

Hotel Nightmare

SPEAKER_01

Although, I will say, Vancouver, I do have a word with you.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-oh.

SPEAKER_01

Uh specifically, Chad mentioned earlier the hotel we're staying at. Wasn't a hotel. It was actually a verbo, which is it's like Airbnb, but it's only in Canada or in the US. It's not in Australia. I booked a verbo months ago. I still don't know what camera's look at. And a few days before arriving there, I get a message from the person who gave it to me saying, like, hey, by the way, Vancouver, the city, or at least his apartment building or a congregation of apartments, like, we're not taking any more verbo, Airbnb, or short-term rentals during the World Cup because of Fuck you, I think. Price gouging, people not wanting to yeah, fuck you, basically. Yeah. So I got that message a few days before. Luckily, the guy was a legend and said, like, hey, you're still good, you can stay there, but just don't mention you're doing verbo to anyone, because we don't want you to have to pay fines, which I don't think we would have had to anyways. It would have been on them, but also like, bro, I booked my ticket, like, verbo four months in advance, and you're telling me now it's cancelled. Canada, what are you doing? Yeah. That's weird as fuck.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Canada, get it together.

SPEAKER_01

It's a it's a wild card. You're gonna expect people to come in. Like, I'm I'm it's probably because they want the hotels to make the money rather than a light just fell in the background, it's all fine. It's fine. It doesn't matter. Yeah. It ended up well, but a bit of a weird.

SPEAKER_00

No, the guy was cool, but he was just like, yeah. Yeah, go for it. We're we're professionals, by the way. Um Wow. I yeah, you know what? It's it's cool. Anyways, I'm gonna go back on topic. I am sorry for the people I don't know who I'm more sorry for the people who have to listen and not see what's going on, and or for the poor souls that are watching and wondering what the hell is going on. Um anyways, the guy was super chill. He was like, just don't let anyone else know I'm not gonna cancel three days prior, because like that's also fucked. Because like he was already in Washington. Washington, so he was already close. Yeah. I, you know, we also had our flights booked, our tickets paid for. Like, we couldn't just turn around and get a hotel. Because then, you know, if we turn around and got a hotel, it would have been so fucking expensive. Um, guy was a homie. Uh,

We Nearly Died?!?!

SPEAKER_00

another gripe. I mean, it's just a thing that happened. It's not really a bad thing, but we almost died. Um true story. I think that's the way to go. Uh, so we're going out for dinner. Um, I think we were like gonna go out for dinner and then try to watch a game. Yeah, we're going out at like 8 p.m. Yeah. We I think we left at 7. We left at 7.15. We left at 7.15. We're on the third floor. We're basically on the second floor because the building had weird. It had no second floor, but yeah, and then the second floor is weird. We get in the elevator. We get in, door closes, I press a button, nothing happens. I'm like, okay, non-ideal. I press other buttons, nothing happens. I press a lot of buttons, nothing happens. They're not glowing red, we're not moving, uh, we can't open the door. I tried the open door button, nothing. Uh the good news is the one button that did work was the uh call the front desk button. Yep. Which we did, and we were like, hey, uh, we're stuck. And they're like, it did it like stop? We're like, it never started. Yep. So they had to call a separate company to get us out. It took us 45 minutes to an hour, roughly. I think closer to 45 of just sitting in the elevator. And I mean, it wasn't terrible to be honest. It was just we sat there for 45 minutes. It was incredibly boring and nearly killed us. Um, I think at one point Dan asked me if we'd run out of oxygen, and I said yes, very soon. Um, I said, breathe less, which is an easy thing to do. Yeah. How how'd you feel about this harrowing experience, Dan? Honestly.

SPEAKER_01

That would just kill me.

SPEAKER_00

I thought about it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we I did start playing uh I can't remember which song it was by Lincoln Park. One more light. One more light. I started playing one more light by Lincoln Park, a very sad song of the song to set the mood of my final demise. Immediately got depressed. Yeah, I mean it it's understandable. Uh I was just preparing for the depression of Australia to losing to America. True. Uh in the People World Cup happy to watch it with this guy. I could have been more insufferable, I think. I'm aware. Uh so I'm happy that you weren't. I'm not happy that we lost. True. That sucked. But uh things have been going alright in that respect in general. We've been watching a lot of games. We've just finished the uh Germany uh Ivory Coast Ivory Coast game, if you want to keep up when this when this was recorded. That was good. I napped through like half of it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you slept through a good amount of that game.

SPEAKER_01

I was I'm tired, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Big man's

Dan Getting The True American Experience

SPEAKER_00

tired.

SPEAKER_01

Uh because we went to a baseball game last night for the Colorado Rockies. Colorado Rockies versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. And for anyone that doesn't know baseball, which is also included, the Colorado Rockies are currently the worst team in the whole MLB. Like have been for years. And they won. So that's cool. Good. It was a good game, it was a close game the whole time. Uh they won it on the final inning. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Which is pretty good. Which is pretty smooth. So for my first baseball game, it's pretty good. It's pretty good. I've had that experience. Yeah. I've been having a good old American time here, is what I can say. Yeah. I'm gonna come back 20 kilograms heavier and with uh lust for guns. Yeah. I did hold some, haven't shot them yet. True.

SPEAKER_00

Can't ask for much more, can you?

SPEAKER_01

Nah, I mean, it's really beaten America would be nice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you'll you'll get a

GTA V & VI News!

SPEAKER_00

paragraph.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, uh one thing I didn't ask for specific well depends who you ask, and you're asking me, and I don't know. I'm asking you. A thing that did happen recently was that uh some GTA 5 and some GTA 6 news has finally dropped. So, I've not looked into it because I've been trying my best to stay off my phone and off of work like the entire time I've been here. I've not looked at my YouTube stats at all. Uh, but I saw on Twitter that not only do we finally have a new DLC announced and it is going to be a new heist, the center heist, which is not what I expected. I honestly was quite surprised they gave us another heist this late into the game. Yeah. Uh, considering we're only gonna get to play. I know I know the game isn't going away when GT6 comes out, but most people are probably not gonna be playing much GT5 if they have access to six. So we'll be playing this heist for probably another six months, and then most likely won't touch it again. At least I won't be. There's sort of no need.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I know I know a lot of people aren't gonna be playing GT6 from day one because it's on next-gen console, so everyone has one, but it does feel weird for a heist to be this late. It's been five years since Kaio, I think. Yeah. They could have done it three years ago or something, or two years ago. It's also a bit strange to me because seemingly Rockstar thought GT6 was gonna be out about a year ago. And if it came out a year ago, this heist wouldn't have existed.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. I mean, unless they were continue they were planning on continuing some amount of development on GTA 5 online, but I guess that also depends on how quickly GTA 6 online comes out. Because a lot of the rumors are a month.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

But if it's not the case, then I do think people will want their online fix until 6 comes out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a good point. And they do obviously still have a large player base that will be playing it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I do also wonder maybe the mansion DLC and this, they they're kind of coming as a duo of two DLCs. I wonder if they were planned years ago, but they've been pushed back to be the final two DLCs on purpose. And instead of this one being one they've made just now, it was like the car wash businesses that they made quickly to go out back then, and these were just pushed further forward in the dateline. We don't really know, but that DLC is coming out, I want to say the first week of July, I think. So 7th or 8th or something? Yeah, something like that. And it's currently of recording, it's the 20th of June. I'll be back in Australia on the 25th or 24th. Yeah. So I will be there to make those videos. And another thing happening on the 25th is GT6 pre-orders. Yeah, that's exciting. Officially, yeah, we've the we have like the official cover art now, which it's good. It is just another GTA cover. There's nothing much, it's what we expected pretty much. Uh looks nice, but yeah, actual pre-orders now I think pretty much nails in the coffin that it's coming out November 19th.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's I'm I'm excited. I mean, I feel like again, we'll see when we see, we'll see when it's actually out, but pre-orders feels good. That feels difficult to not like not delay it, or delay, or it feels difficult to delay it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, I I'm I'm excited. I'm honestly kind of excited for a heist. I did not expect a heist coming out.

SPEAKER_02

Me neither.

SPEAKER_00

So I feel like that's something we'll probably record alongside we're still recording criminal mastermind. Yep. It's going pretty well so far. Knocking on wood. Yeah. We're doing pretty well. We're gonna see if we get a uh a death in here, but yeah, we're doing pretty hot. We should also probably go back to recording that relatively soon. Um the last month or so has been hectic for the both of us. A lot of vacation, a lot of uh you grind you like grinded the hell out of May, I feel. Yeah, well for my standards. Sure. Um, so we're gonna kind of get back to it, and I think a DLC is kind of a nice way to nice thing to come back home to. Yeah. Um yeah, it's uh it's exciting times for the GTA community. I think there's some positives.

SPEAKER_01

We will probably see the we will probably see the uh marketing really start to ramp up now from this DLC. Uh I'm in a server, like I said before, I'm in a Discord server with a bunch of other creators. A lot of us have talked about the fact that there could be GT6 stuff within the DLC. Yeah. Because the DLC has Michael in it. Michael is a movie director in game now. So I thought I put out there there was maybe after the heist. You know how after the heist is those little scenes where you go out to a bar to celebrate with your friends? Yeah. Maybe for this heist you go to the cinema and they play GT6 trailer three. That'd be pretty sweet. I would be very happy if they did something like that.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if Rockstar will. No, that's kind of too creative, I feel like, almost. Like if that was the only way for you to see GTA 6, like trailer 3, is through doing a high- Well, I think I would imagine they would put it on YouTube afterwards.

SPEAKER_01

Oh sure. Like a day after or something, but uh it's sort of like in COD Zombies for Easter egg hunters. The first people hunt it, they find like the final cutscene of the Easter egg, and then people upload it on YouTube. Fair. I feel like it could be something like that. Also, again, I've been messing with mic settings as we've as we're going, so if the loudness keeps going up and down, uh I don't apologize. Turn down your audio.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, deal with it. Yeah. We're again, we're professionals.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I did bring a lav mic to record with, and I just realized my phone doesn't have like a port for it, so I couldn't use my phone. Tried to use it on my laptop, and then my laptop crashed. So we're thriving. Yeah, it's going really well. We actually have two microphones, we have this one and then one on top of this camera that I I I don't know if it works this far away. We're gonna see. Uh I'll probably edit this at some point and hope for the best. Time will tell.

SPEAKER_00

Indeed, yo. It will be fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um we're happy to be here. I think we're having just a dandy time. It's been three years for us in person. Yeah. Which is crazy. Which and also very cool. Um GTA news we got to talk about.

SPEAKER_01

Not that I can think of off the top of my head. Yeah. I think most GTA news is just the cover art, which they made a YouTube trailer for. For a fucking cover art. They did, that's really funny. Yeah. Um don't see the point now, but okay. And then the GTA 6 news. It looks like it's a heist that you start from being in the mansion. And that's kind of all we know. It's at the Art Squad Center, like I said, like the like the art museum in Los Santos. Uh that's yeah, that's kind of all we know at the moment, I think. I imagine Michael will be involved in it to a degree. I also saw rumors, I don't know how true this is. I saw rumors that they're trying to make some of the original heists uh solo. I would I would like that. I don't know if they're going to. It feels very late to do it if they're gonna make it out of nowhere. If they do, cool. I don't know how exactly they do it. Uh whether it's like AI NPCs like on your team or they just completely change how you do it. It wouldn't be too bad though. Uh I think it'd be nice to be able to do those by yourself for once.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, or even just not with four people. Yeah. Like, it'd be great if you could do that in a two or in a three, because it's it can be difficult to get a team of four together, as you know. Yeah, like we are friends and we struggle to find times to play it. In fairness, all different time zones. But still, like it's not easy to get four people together consistently. Because the heists also aren't quick. They take multiple hours. Yeah, for sure. So it'd be cool to see if they're solo. Um, do you think we might see this heist almost feel like the end of GTA 5 online? Like, do you think there'll be like a fly off into the sunset kind of moment?

SPEAKER_01

I think so. There, like, when I was streaming a lot, there were so many people that were like, uh are Roxar gonna continue GT5 online after 6 online comes out? My answer's always been no. I don't see a reason for them to, apart from maybe like keeping the weekly update rotation, that's pretty easy. And then maybe putting up snow for Christmas. Yeah. And like Halloween events. I don't see them doing any more actual DLCs in five. So I would expect this to be, I don't know if they're gonna do like actual fly off into the sunset finale. Sure. But I feel like it should feel like the end of LGT online character's story.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe even there's people obviously wishful thinking, hoping for like Michael, Franklin, Trevor to come back for like a final final thing. I don't think that will happen. You could we could maybe get Franklin because he's in the game. Him and Michael, they're voice actors or the actors in real life are friends. Yeah. So getting both of them wouldn't be difficult. I don't think Trevor is gonna come back. He seems to distance himself from the game quite a lot. Just don't see it happening, to be honest.

SPEAKER_00

Makes sense. I think uh like moment, like a maybe not fly off into the sunset, but either like a fly off into the sunset of like, alright, I've done every heist, I've taken money from everyone, I've done everything I can do. Time for me to be done, which is kind of what the mansions feel like a little bit. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Sounds like the end of my series, which is ironic because this is coming out after the end of my series.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, but it could be cool, or not fly off into the sunset. It could be a I got a new city to conquer, a la GTA 6. Which could also be interesting.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I don't think this is another point of contention. I don't think that it's gonna be our current character in the next game. I think it's gonna be a completely new person, completely separate. There's a lot of people that want their progress to carry over. I think those people have a screw loose in their head. It's just I don't understand the point of that.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it's like I get it, like you put a bunch of effort into stuff, but like there's also some there's something fun about starting new. Honestly, a lot of times starting new is fun. Yeah. We've both played Skyrim a million times. We've started new a lot of times. And it's usually fun every time. There's a Skyrim poster right above these two, you just can't see it. Yeah. So I I agree. It's also like, then if you go into GTA 6 online with all your progress, anyone who didn't play GTA 5 is just far behind. Yes. And that's not that the game needs to be fair, but like that's boring. I agree. Yeah, totally. Yeah. So I'll be curious to see. I'll be curious to see when GTA 6 online comes out. We'll be curious. I mean, it seems a lot closer and a lot more nailed on, but if the game still comes out November 17th? 19? 19th.

SPEAKER_01

Uh time will tell. Yeah, well, as of today, it's the 20th of June, like I said, five months. Yeah. It's we're getting closer.

SPEAKER_00

It's all we got. Yeah, it's it's all we got. Then the world ends. And then yeah, and then

Broke To Ballin is Finished…

SPEAKER_00

that's it. Um Dan, how do you feel about broke to balling being currently done?

SPEAKER_01

I'm happy it's done in general. I'm annoyed about the way I had to complete it due to the GT6 getting delayed and this DLC coming out after the finale already. I wish I could have had this as like an episode 99 and then the finale. It just didn't work out, and I just didn't want to end on like episode 104 or something.

SPEAKER_00

You also didn't know that we were getting a heist.

SPEAKER_01

No, not at all. I didn't know we were even getting the mansions because we thought GT6 was gonna come out last year. That's also true. So it's just unfortunate, and I know I'm being a bit pedantic about wanting to end on episode 100, but I just like it. I think it's symbolic, it's fun. It's a fun thing. And I can always do another series that involves this heist in it if I really want to. I'm just gonna make like for the DLC, I'm just gonna do the same videos I would for Broke to Born, but just not have it be a part of the series. I'm still gonna be doing the spending spree, I'm still gonna be playing through the missions. We'll do a three or four idiots attempt the heist. Probably. I'll still be content just won't be in the series, which again, I've said this before. If you look at the top ten most viewed videos on my channel, six or seven of them six or seven of them are not a part of Brook the Ball and they're like individual one-off videos. So I don't think the series is that important to in terms of like me getting good videos out there. Yeah, no, I don't think it is either.

SPEAKER_00

I guess it's more from like your own standpoint of the series itself, not even just like the content creation portion of it, but just like do you miss the series?

SPEAKER_01

I think I missed the earlier episodes of it. Okay. It started I think post I don't even know when I'd say, but maybe post like 60, it started to get quite stale. There were some episodes like I only completed the original apartment heists in like the eighties and nineties, some of them. So there were some episodes that were really good, but there were some episodes where I just had to come up with some bullshit just to get an episode out. Sure. So the first twenty to thirty were really good, and I I just didn't want to drag it out anymore because it was just gonna get boring. But of course it will come back on GTS X. Yeah. And hopefully it'll be fun for even longer because there'll be a bunch of new stuff I haven't seen before.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's the other thing is Broke Deballing started not as like a fresh GTA player, but as like you've played a decent amount of it already.

SPEAKER_01

I've never done the heists in a lot of the businesses, but I knew the map of driven the vehicles. Yeah. I've done well, I've attempted the heists, I never completed them when I'm kid. Uh but yeah, GTA 6 will be completely fresh. New map, new world, new lore, new story, new businesses, heist missions, everything. So it'll be easy to say entertained for a lot longer, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Do you plan to start broke to balling immediately once GTA 6 online comes out? Or like get a couple videos just about the GTA 6 online and then do Broke Deballing? You don't have to know the answer.

SPEAKER_01

I'm leaning towards starting it straight away because I think part of the charm of Broke to Ballin is that the way I do my series compared to a lot of other people is it's not a tutorial. It is through osmosis, I guess. Yeah. Because people see what I'm doing, but it's more so it's my time, it's my genuine experience playing the game. And I think playing the game, doing a bunch of stuff, then going back and starting it would rip that away.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, again, the whole idea is you're starting from nothing and getting there. Starting from literally nothing would be exciting. Of like you have not played whatsoever. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So like I would I would definitely do that. Uh obviously, story I'm gonna play. So I'll I'll probably know the map beforehand or like mechanics and stuff, but online unless it comes out at the same time. Yeah, which I doubt. Then if it did come up come out at the same time, I don't know what I'd actually do first. Because the story is probably more interesting, but online's what I'm known for.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But I don't think that'll happen.

SPEAKER_00

So you haven't done like any story videos? None. Yeah, so. I don't know. I'd be curious. Be curious to see. Kind of excited for the game to come out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think it'll be fun. I know people who are like, I'm gonna take work off.

SPEAKER_01

Well, there's been some actual companies that have like said like this is a national holiday. What companies? There's been a few I've seen that are like this is a cult this is a historical cultural moment you can have a day off. Damn, that's crazy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Are they gaming companies or just companies? I mean, I l I love that, but at the same time that feels it's kind of crazy. A little bit crazy that they're like, I don't know if it's a historical moment. Who knows? I'll take it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's about it for GTA at the moment though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. You're not? I mean, it's as as we've known, there's only so much to truly talk about as we have the long lead up to GTA 6. Yeah.

Did Dan Enjoy His Time In North America?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. What else we got, Chad? That's such a great question. Dan, have you how have you uh enjoyed Colorado? You've been enjoying the mountains?

SPEAKER_01

It's really yeah, it's a very nice uh picturesque location. I hate saying that word because my parents say it all the time, but yes, that is the right word. Uh the mountains are really nice. I the altitude hasn't really affected me. No, I feel like you haven't been too bad at all. Like I've been getting tired and headaches, but I I'm always tired and always get headaches. I don't think that's a thing about being here. I think that's just me. Um it's quite hot. Obviously, it's summer at the moment in America. I came from winter, so it's a bit of a change. A bit of a change. It also, I don't mind the heat here as much as the dry heat. I really hate humidity. That's what gets you. So it's not been too bad. It's quite hot in the room right now. Yeah. Because you got like the evening or afternoon sun coming through these windows.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we got a little bit of sun coming through the windows. We got two b two hot, warm bodies.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, we do. Seeping in. Uh, we do have an like Chad has an AC unit in this room, but it's quite loud. It's way too loud to run. I cannot be playing it. I've been sleeping here. This is the bed I've been on. So it's been it's been good fun. Uh yeah, no, Colorado's been really nice. I think out of the places of like so we went I went to Seattle City for a few hours, then in a small town somewhere, Vancouver and then Colorado. I think both Vancouver and Colorado are both places I could live.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. They feel similar in the sense of like kind of the vibe of the people, and then also just like the ton of outdoor nature-y things going on.

SPEAKER_01

I think we did a lot more nature in Vancouver than here. I think that's partially because you've been working a bit more here. It's also been way hotter here than it was in Vanguard.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the Vancouver's a little further north, and I just think the weather was a bit nicer. Yeah. Whereas here it's been like minimum 80s, which is quite warm for people that don't understand what that means.

SPEAKER_01

Um 27, 28, 30, 27.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Uh I think. Yeah. So it's been a bit warm, so we've been kind of staying inside more, kind of going out later. But but yeah, like Dan said, we saw a Rockies game. Um the Rockies are such a fun, like a game to go to, not because they're good. Again, they're terrible. The stadium is nice, the tickets are cheap. Like, we got pretty decent tickets for like 40 bucks each, which is like not the cheapest thing in the world, but like we could have gotten them for 20. Yep. And on other days, I've seen them go for like 10. Uh I mean, compared to soccer tickets, it's ridiculous. I even like I went to Fenway last year, which is the stadium in Boston. And it like it was so much more expensive. I was trying to get like I was looking at like nosebleeds, and they were more expensive than like good tickets. But I mean, like Dan said, I think it was a pretty good game. Um we've watched a lot of sport.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Um I'm just really noticing because I can on Chad's monitor, I can see the loudness of the microphone. When you hold it here, it's like really in the red. It's quite loud. And we've been holding it there for 20 minutes, and I'm like, you're jump scaring the audience.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, that's my I'm trying to make sure everyone's still awake. Okay, gotcha. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Again, all on purpose, all professional. Gotcha. This is the first time we've recorded together. Uh, if we did this more often, we'd have a much better setup. But obviously, my setup is specifically for just me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, if we if I like moved here or if he moved to Australia, we'd have like two microphones and actual setup.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It would be a lot better than this.

SPEAKER_00

Probably have like a nice camera, two seats a bit further away from each other so that our mics aren't picking up each other. Yep. Uh, but that's not where we're at right now. Hey, if you donate $100,000 a yield, then maybe we can do it. Then maybe we can do it. Uh the low, low price. It's it's just like I don't know, a thousand cups of coffee a day. Yeah. Just don't drink your thousand cups of coffee a day and give it to us. Just cut out your thousand. I mean, it's probably less than a thousand cups of coffee, but I could do the math. I'm not going to. You're welcome. Um. Yeah. No, it's been it's been nice having you here. Uh, we just have a couple days left with you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, tomorrow that I leave Monday. Got a long 30-hour trip back to Melvin. Maybe I love flying as a as a as a big man. It's so fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you literally just like kind of have to pay for better seats. Better seats because you're so tall you don't fit. I'm 6'1, and I have a hard time like with the amount of space.

SPEAKER_02

In economy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, in in like normal economy. I feel like I'm like if I was any taller, I would be I'm already kind of uncomfortable. I'd be even more uncomfortable. So I cannot imagine.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I can handle it for like a couple hours, but the flight from LA to Melbourne, I think, is around 14. Ugh. So I really need to be able to like not fully lay down, I but I need a bit of space at least. Sure. That's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So that should be a

Responding To Viewer Comments!

SPEAKER_00

good time. Um. Dan, do you want to read some comments from some of our viewers? Oh boy, do I! So answer them because we've been bad about answering things. Oh, Dan froze. Oh. Oh fuck. Uh well. Um. Uh oh now. You're not supposed to freeze in real life. This isn't how this works. I'm back. Okay, okay, cool. Uh, nothing. I said all good things about you. Okay, just lost connection. Yeah, yeah, just lost connection. Uh another classic objectively bad bit that we do, uh, except usually it's not a bit we actually lose connection to. Yeah, Discord quite often. Yeah, Discord quite often. Uh big ups Discord. Um, I got yeah, I figured we've gotten a couple questions over the last, like, I think two videos that we haven't really responded. Sorry about that. I partially just forgot to respond and also partially kind of saved it for us so that we could chat about it. So um I have not looked at these. Dan is not looking at these, Dan has no idea what's going on. I don't think any of them are crazy. Um, this one is for you. Uh Eric Perez I2S1L,

Should You Watch DanDaDan?

SPEAKER_00

I think. Yo, Dan, little question here. I thought you liked Dandadan. I just finished the anime and I'm curious. There's an E at the end of Curious. Uh curious what you think about it, and if you read the manga, is it worth it?

SPEAKER_01

Good show. Didn't finish season two yet. Okay. I watched like five or six episodes. Haven't read the manga. Uh they have a good opening song that goes dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. And then Japanese quite quite original. It's pretty good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's yeah. Did any more comments about?

SPEAKER_01

Uh I mean we were we actually went to a library earlier today and saw the dun dun manga there. And I was talking to Chad, another person, saying, like, it's a good show, but it is like a nearly rape scene at the end of episode one. Yeah, I left by aliens. It's like it's like an alien probing scene, but they don't actually fully get probed. Kind of sexual.

SPEAKER_00

It is sexual. It's sexual. It's it's slightly tough to get into. I watched the first couple of episodes. I have a hard time finishing anime because I like a show I don't have to fully pay attention to, and with you know, something not in the language I know, I have to fully pay attention to.

SPEAKER_01

I will say, Danthron is dubs are getting a lot lot better now that has a really good dub. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I consider it I had a hard time getting past that first episode because it's also I feel like in Japan, what isn't there like age of consent 16, and they're they kind of see high schoolers as more adults. That's a little bit more difficult from a Western perspective.

SPEAKER_01

In anime, it's very common for like 16-year-olds to be I guess sexualized is the term more so. It's like it's more normalized. It's also a thing of like I think if you get into anime when you're younger, you get more accustomed to just like the things that happen in anime that are like not as well uh as well accepted in Western media. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So like it's not like I accept that stuff happening, like it's not good, but I just kind of like I just ex- You don't accept that it's that like you don't agree with it, but you've just accepted that it's a it's just a thing, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's a thing that happens and it doesn't stop me from continuing the story unless it's very egregious.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because like from my point of view, they're like, oh, there's a rape scene with a minor. That's crazy. In the I I mean, if I'm correct, the more Japanese perspective is like it'd be like if we said she was 18, and then we'd be like, oh, well, it's bad, but it's not that bad.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and I think it's kind of the same there. It's just a little difficult to get into. I will say the action and like the plot is interesting.

SPEAKER_01

It's a really good idea.

SPEAKER_00

Um if you can get past that, I think you're fine.

SPEAKER_01

I think Japan

A MAJOR Problem With Anime

SPEAKER_01

just has a weird thing with uh there's a lot it's because a lot of anime is made for younger audiences. There obviously are anime that are made for adults, but a lot of them is made for like teenage boys or teenage girls, Shonen and Shoujo are like the genre as well. And Japan has a really big obsession, or like manga kurs and anime creatures, creators have a really big obsession with putting the setting of any interesting plot in a fucking high school. They really like the majority of romance anime, the majority of like uh modern like shonen, like my hero academia introducing high zone, it's all in high school. And the annoying thing is is like almost none of the plots need to be in high school, they could all be in university, they could all be car students.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So that is one gripe I do have with it. I do like I love when I find a good romance anime that's about actual grown-ups and not like 15-year-olds. I I still like it, it's sweet. I get to reminisce on the time when I was that age, but like they do need to make more stuff about like grown-up people because it it is a bit weird, and obviously it's for the younger audience who want this, but it's a bit weird that like 16 and 15-year-old kids are like beating up gods. It's like yeah, like they're not even flew through puberty yet and they're doing that.

SPEAKER_00

I could believe it a bit more when it's like a 25-year-old guy. Yeah. And I mean, I I say that I as a kid love the Percy Jackson series, but that goes back to what I just said as a kid, because Percy Jackson is made for children. Um, where it's like there's a lot of adults that watch anime. Not that you can't like not watch Percy Jack, but like Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think this is gonna sound this is gonna sound crazy out of context, but to a certain degree, when it comes to like the I guess the high school anime like genre, you kind of need to just like if you want to appre like watch more of it, you kind of need to just not care about the like upper end age of the characters, just blur them all in as like one thing. Yeah. I feel like in Japan, anywhere between 15 and 20 of the characters, it's just like a blur. Because also uh which I don't love, but again, it's not how it's it's also a weird thing of like there's a lot of characters that if I showed you a character in a lot of anime and said, like, you're 20, you could probably believe me, and if I say that you're they're 15, you could probably believe me. Yeah, yeah. A lot of them get very ambiguous. Yeah, and that's also kind of the issue. The fact that they are ambiguous and the monk is still like now they're 15, it's a bit like just make them 20. Just say they're 20. Yeah. It helps like everyone about.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm not here to moralize anything, it's just as a Western audience, it can be a little difficult.

SPEAKER_01

I I will say there are some Western shows that do fall into that as well, specifically Riverdale is really weird. Yeah. Riverdale is a like I think they're meant to be like 16 when they start. But Riverdale is like classic CW, like Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not saying it's not everything, but yeah, no, but do it. I just think Euphoria is another good one. Yeah, Euphoria is such a weird one where it's like A, it's overdramatized in general, but it's like I would believe it a lot more if they were like, yeah, they were in college. Yeah, because the shit they do in Euphoria is crazy. Yeah, but it's so it's not like it doesn't happen. I also think you look at that and you're like, I think a more Western audience still is kind of like, oh, that's messed up, but they almost watch it because it's messed up. Yeah. In a way, like it's it's shocking. But yeah, any more uh comments on Dan-Dan?

SPEAKER_01

Not particularly. I do I do should finish season two. I just have I similar to you, I sometimes struggle to finish things. Um I go through periods of being out able to like lock into watching an anime, and sometimes I can't. I got especially when they're coming out weekly, sometimes I just forget about them.

A Dumb Question for an Aussie & an American

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, I should I should finish it sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, I got another I got a couple more comments. Um one is from James 2426. Uh correct me if I'm wrong, but in the UK, all you have to do is a theory test online. Then do as many practice slash lessons as you want, then just do the test. Uh here's a question. Can we correct him if he's wrong? The answer? No, neither of us are British. It's not really a question, but it feels like it's a question. That needs to give more context.

SPEAKER_01

It's about a driving exam.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it is about a driving exam.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, we're not fucking British. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

We're not British, I don't know. Maybe, maybe not.

SPEAKER_01

I know I know there is a driving exam because I've heard like British YouTubers talking about

Our Thoughts on Subnautica

SPEAKER_01

it, but I know nothing else.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Uh two separate people, uh Charles the Greatness and Emile Grimm 12. I'm I'm not gonna read the comments exactly, but they basically said, can you talk about Subnautica 1 and Subnautica 2? More with Subnautica 2, having what just come out, like not that long ago. Dan, do you have thoughts on the the game franchise? No. Me neither, haven't played it. Uh seems cool. Buy it if you want it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, if you want uh a better underwater gameplay, Soma. Uh it's a horror game made in like 2011. I originally watched it when PhaseJeth played it like years ago, and I thought it was really boring. Then recently I watched a like a three-hour long or two and a half hour long, maybe it's three and a half hours, uh, like YouTube video essay/slash playthrough. It's a really interesting style of Soma, and it is genuinely one of the greatest narrative games I've ever seen in my life. It is absolutely brilliant. So even if you don't play it, go find that three hour video on Soma, because it is bloody incredible. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Any insight on you said it was Jev, right? Phase Jev. Phase Jev, okay, sure. There's the one that did it play through back in the day. Okay, gotcha.

SPEAKER_01

The game is kind of like a big walking simulator through like different underground, uh, underwater facilities. Post apocalyptic, there's a lot of stuff about uh what it means to be human, about cloning, about consciousness, uh morality, saving the world, or saving people. Sure. There's a lot of interesting concepts in there that I really liked. It has one of the most to not spoil the ending at all, it has one of the best endings I've ever seen in maybe media.

SPEAKER_00

It is so, so well done. Okay. Uh to the people asking for us to talk about Subnautica 2, play Soma.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Precisely. Uh also play Subnautica 2. I we just haven't played it. I I have a friend I like Subnautica a lot. Yeah. I have a friend that's trying

We Don’t Play Games Anymore…

SPEAKER_00

trying to get me to get it, but I guess I just I'm honestly, I don't know how you are.

SPEAKER_01

I'm at the point now where I don't play many new games. I kind of play GTA for my job. I go back to Skyrim and Runescape pretty often, and then I may play like some friends slot occasionally. Sure.

SPEAKER_00

And then maybe one new game a year, if that I just I don't feel like I dive into games as much as I used to, which I feel like is probably kind of the same where it's like I play a lot more casually than I used to, which I love a good single player game and I'd love to dive into it. I just I don't know. I I I think I bounce around my hobbies a little bit too much to do it. Um I'd like to, but I I haven't.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, the most I've I've like dived into games recently, I don't know if you guys know this, I've been playing Pokemon. Um but even then they are all kind of the same. Like the concept in the and the gameplay is the same, and like they're very easy to start and stop and start and stop. Whereas a lot of games are difficult to like stop and then come back like two weeks later or like four weeks later and really kind of know what you're doing. Whereas like I could probably get back to my black and white save that I played like a year ago. Yeah I I did everything, so I don't really need to, but like I could just get back into it and continue playing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's pretty similar to RuneScape as well. You can start your account, stop playing for like two years and come back and just keep going from where you were. There's not really much upkeep or remembering you need to do. Because I played God of War, the original one. I played up until like maybe like the last quarter of the game, then stopped, tried to get back into it two years ago, uh, or two years after, and I was in a boss fight and I couldn't remember how to fucking fight, so I just couldn't beat the boss. I was like, well, I'm soft blocked now, that's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I've definitely been there where I start. I've I've restarted The Last of Us a lot where I like I did that as well. I haven't played it for a while, and I get back and I'm like, I don't want to do it. I don't want to do the beginning. I've done the intro so many times. And then I start and I'm like, I don't fucking remember how to play. This sucks. I guess what I could do is honestly gonna move it to easy mode. Yeah, get into it, and then push like back onto like a harder mode. But yeah. Um no thoughts about

Our Time Living in Germany & How to Cope with moving abroad

SPEAKER_00

no thoughts about Synotica 2. Um last main question for us, this is from it's Willis, uh, a bit of a longer one. Hey dad. Which I love. Yeah. I don't know, I'm it's Dan and Chad, but I like the idea that you're just calling one of us dad. Um hey dad, believe it or not, I'm also an American teenager who now lives in Germany and is having a hard time learning the bum ass language because I have big enough balls to go to an actual German school and not some weird English speaking school. First of all, that wasn't my choice. Leave me alone. Me neither. Also, that's an honestly low-key dumb. Also, that's a you problem. I wouldn't say dumb. I don't want to say it's dumb. But there are values in learning another language.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I wouldn't, I was gonna go different route. I was gonna say, I don't think it's dumb because getting into an English school in Germany can be more expensive. You may just not have the funds for it. But also if you had the choice, I think that's weird because you're just gonna make it way more difficult for yourself for no reason. True. Go to an English speaking school or hybrid school and just learn German on the side, while also not like if you don't speak any German and you go into a biology class, what the fuck are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_00

Duh, no idea. I uh hats off to you because that's hard. Um, there is more to this comment, it wasn't just that. No, I would have burst in more.

SPEAKER_01

What the fuck is wrong with you?

SPEAKER_00

No, you're I look, I didn't have a choice. I still would have made the choice I made. I went in like ninth grade, that's difficult. I'm sure I would have eventually learned, but I feel like I would have just been held back at some point.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or like needed a year to take off to just learn German. Um but, anyways, which is what what you said here. But anyways, I was wondering if you could talk more about your time there and what you did, and what were some of the difficulties and hardships you went through. And then if you don't talk about it, I will personally delay GTA 6 till February 26, 2027. So here's the question, Dan. If we don't talk about this purposefully. Does GTA get real delayed and is that something you would want?

SPEAKER_01

No, he's a fucking liar and he goes to a stupid school. What's wrong with him?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay, fair enough. Um, what Willis is taking heat right now.

SPEAKER_01

Will Willis? Um Honestly, I'm hot right now. I hope Willis is burning and I'm joking.

SPEAKER_00

Damn. Um question. Uh if you could talk more about your time there and what you did and what were some of the difficulties and hardships you went through. Um I mean, hardships, I think the language is one of them. We were lucky, like, school-wise, we didn't need to learn it, but like there were definitely moments where we had to learn German, or like I'd have someone speak to me and I don't speak the language, and it's kind of like, oh, I think culturally there's a big difference. Yeah. Um, a, there's a big difference between our respective countries and Germany, but also the fact that we went to an international school, there's a difference, like there's almost a kind of international school culture that's different from other countries as well, in a way. Um, I think socioeconomic classes, we were quite different. We were on the poorer end for sure, even though we weren't necessarily I wouldn't consider either either of us poor. Um so that could be difficult. I think both of us are pretty good at adapting to new environments. Uh I I would say I am now.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think I really was when I moved there. I was heavily depressed for like a year or two when I moved to Germany. I got pulled out of in Australia high school starts in seventh grade. There we go. In Australia high school starts in seventh grade, and I was pulled out about three months into that to move to Germany. So I thought I was like, oh cool, I'm going to high school with all my friends, I'm gonna have like a great time, and then I was just like, nope. So I was like very depressed. I don't have siblings that I live with. I have older half siblings, but I've never lived with them. So I was there alone with my parents, and I hate my parents for the decision, so I was kind of just there by myself uh for a while. I didn't go into school for six months because of the difference in schedule. So I was in Germany for like a few months just by myself with no one, no friends around my age, no one to talk to. Uh, and then I went to school, and then I don't know if you really had this when you came in ninth grade, but the difference in schooling quality was much higher in Germany. So when I first came, I was one of the smarter students when I was in Australia, and I came to Germany, and I was like close to bottom of the class in most subjects because there's just such a difference in how difficult and how far progressed they were. Like in Germany, they were doing calculus in grade five, my school did it in grade eight. They were doing calculus? I don't think they were doing calculus. That makes a lot more sense. Algebra. Uh so I was like really behind it, like math and like science. I think English and stuff I was fine at, uh, but there's like a lot of stuff like having to cite sources and stuff I'd never done before, and like long essay writing I hadn't really done before. That took me a while to catch up. So, and then having that stress on top of not really having super close friends at the start, and being in a country when I went outside and got a c got a phone call, people speaking in a foreign language I didn't understand, it was very overwhelming for me, and I kind of hated everything about it. I refused, can't not refuse to learn German, obviously I had to take classes, but I didn't really try any harder than I had to to get a passing grade. Uh, I kind of tried to repent everything German for quite a while, and it was really only after about two years and meeting other friends like Alfred Alan that I started to be more accepting there and get a little bit better. But it was a very, very tough move for me.

SPEAKER_00

I think for me the move wasn't as bad for kind of a couple of reasons. I moved around a lot as a kid, so I was used to the concept of moving. Now I only moved within states, so the cultural differences aren't that as big as going to Germany. But I didn't necessarily like the place I lived in before Germany that much. It was fine. I kind of a similar thing where I felt like I was one of the smarter kids in my school, and then I came to the school, which was a lot harder and was probably more middle of the pack, um, which was interesting. I almost kind of liked it that I was middle of the pack because there was probably too much pressure I put on myself when I was towards the top, because I think I just had to feel like I had to be the best in a way. And I don't think I necessarily was, but like I feel like that pressure was there of like, oh, it's achievable, I can be the best. And that's not to say you shouldn't push yourself to be better, but I almost think it kind of let me accept that, like, oh, I actually like there's a lot of people out here. I'm never like you're never truly gonna be the best at anything, but you can always still strive to be good. Yep. Um, I think I had a little bit of a hard time moving and getting adjusted, but probably I don't think as much as you. I don't think I was necessary. I had a harder time actually um when I was a younger kid moving out of Colorado because I really liked it there. Right. And the schooling there was also quite good. Because that's the thing with the United States is schooling varies so much depending on where you're at. Like I felt like the schooling I had in elementary school in Colorado was really good. The schooling I had in Virginia in middle school was fine, but like I was fine moving to Germany because it was exciting, and I didn't necessarily like the place I lived in that much. It was fine. I played soccer and I had like a couple friends, but like I feel like I thrived a lot more once I had moved to Germany. Yeah, that's fair.

SPEAKER_01

I will say, not to discredit your move, but you had it a little bit easier in terms of just where you lived, because you lived in the American military base where you were surrounded by English grocery stores and your English clerks and stuff like that. Yeah, I think I had an easier transition. You also, I guess, I don't know if being a bit older, again, like you moved around a lot more, so you're used to it more than I was. That was the first time I I'd moved in my memory. Yeah. I could think of. And it came at like a very awkward time, I guess, in terms of like going to high school.

SPEAKER_00

No, middle school is a weird time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like I it's not like I I finished primary school and went. I like started high school. I was like doing exams and taking tests and making friends and doing stuff, and then they pulled me out. Uh, and they didn't really tell me that was gonna happen until like a few weeks or like a month before. So it kind of hit me out of the blue, um, which wasn't great. But yeah, uh, I mean, we both of us complain quite a bit, even to this day, about this is more of a specific to our schooling, I guess, but the privilege of the people we went to school with. A lot of really rich or some some royalty that we went to school with. Uh, and just the the way they live life and interact with people is very different to how we do, I feel.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And I like there's a lot of nice people from our school. Uh, it's just again, it I think it was a good experience in that like seeing a lot of different people of a lot of different backgrounds is always a great thing. We definitely saw a lot of privilege that even extended our own. Because we have there's a little bit of privilege. I don't know if you guys can tell. We are white guys, so we're aware of it. We have uh we do have it. Um, no, no, that was just like it, yeah, it was filling the silence. But like, I do think we were very aware of the differing socioeconomic classes. Like, I when I would because I lived about an hour away from you guys, I had to take a train and I had to keep track of my money because if not, I was going to run out probably very quickly. And I worked in high school as well. Yeah, that's like no one else didn't pretty much no one did. Almost no one else really worked. And that I again I don't want to necessarily have like slights against them. Um, it's just it's a difference that we notice, which is not necessarily um specific to moving to Germany, but like our move in particular. Um Yeah. Trying to think if the comment had anything else. Wonder if time there. Um what you did and what uh what we did. What did we do? Lots of stuff. I mean, mostly normal high school stuff. I mean, it was we lived in a city, so I feel like we went out relatively often.

SPEAKER_01

Um

You Should Socialize More Than You Study

SPEAKER_01

I don't think we did.

SPEAKER_00

Ish. I I for a high schooler, I for I think.

SPEAKER_01

No? No, I don't think so. I think regular high schoolers probably go out with their friends weekly. We went out maybe once a month or two. I think I went more often than that. Okay, we I went out relatively often.

SPEAKER_00

At my side of the friend group and like a lawn, it did not go out that often. Okay. I mean more like going out into the city. I had never really lived in a city, like proper, like, you know, like Munich.

SPEAKER_01

I just mean going out after school, like talking talking to other people I've known that went to like just regular high schools in like America or Australia, will like go out like multiple times a week after school with their friends to restaurants or shopping.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't know that's fairly. We didn't do that like at all. I because I live so far away, I feel like I didn't really have the opportunity. No, you didn't.

SPEAKER_01

Um I did, but unfortunately my other friends, fuck you alone. Damn. Uh was really and he's since since then he has said to us like he kind of regrets how much he like stayed inside and like studied and did homework. Not that it's bad to do that, but he thinks it like I think a lot of people realize after high school the extra 5% effort you put into to getting that next grade level doesn't really help that much unless you're trying to do something very intensive, like lore or like math or doctor. Uh and uh it's better to make memories and like go out and have a fun time and expand socially. I honestly think I like when I went to university, I explicitly said to my parents or my friends, like, I'm going 50% for social and 50% for education, because I think learning social skills, building a community is is just as important not only in life, but even just in like career uh than getting the education work experience type stuff.

SPEAKER_00

It's something I think American it's one thing I'd like about American universities. It it's super expensive and it doesn't necessarily lead to a job, but I think you do get a lot of social growing in college because you're surrounded by people your age. You're kind of in a spot where you're allowed to make a lot of mistakes and you know, obviously everything has consequences, but like make mistakes and then hopefully not have too bad of consequences. And that's obviously like I'm talking about making like you know social mistakes, not like crime, but you know, yeah there's a lot of you know, there's a lot of dating that can happen. There's a lot of like experimenting with like alcohol a little bit. Do you want me to hold the mic, Dan? No, I'm just trying something. Okay. Um, I'm so sorry for our audio. Um I'm just gonna hold the mic. Okay. Um and yeah, I I agree that like I think in high school as well, there's a lot of socializing that is very important. That is also learning. There learning is not just purely academic. There are many types of intelligence out there, yeah, and social is one. I think in high school it's a like obviously you gotta study, but like you do need to go out with your friends and have a good time every once in a while.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think I I've told the story before, maybe, but in university when I was doing uh my IT side of my course, there was a class that was a requirement to take called I'm not gonna remember the name exactly, but it was something along the lines of like communication in IT. Okay. And the whole entire class was teaching IT tech nerds how to speak to each other and like present. I went to one class, and in that, because after that, I was like, I'm not coming back to this shit. The one class we went in, it's like 80 people in a room, split up into like the 10 tables of eight or something like that. And people had to get up and give like a quick, like two-minute introduction about themselves. Say their name, the age, where they came from, what they're studying, something they like, typical stuff you do like at the start of a job or something. And I don't even consider myself a very good like social person. I think I've gotten a lot better at it. I'm I think I'm a pretty decent public speaker. Uh, I don't really get scared of huge crowds, but I get scared in like small groups. And this was a small group, which is when I'm not great. Um like I get I was like second last. Everyone before me was like not awful, but like kind of rough. Like there was a group of like three friends that were like you you you know the vibe when there's like a friend doing a presentation and they're like kind of like guys that fuck around, and their friends are just laughing at him, just existing up there, yeah, and he's not speaking coherently, and he gets to and they sits down, they're still laughing between each other, not acknowledging anyone else going up. Damn, just a bit cringe. Uh, and then the I went, I was fine, and then there's a girl after me that was like so socially scared. I I like said to her, like I heard her name from before, I think it was like Rachel or something. It's like Rachel, it's your turn, do you wanna do you wanna go up? Yeah. She was like literally like turning away from like the front, like the whiteboard where we're standing, like cowering, and I was like, I was trying to be like as kind as I possibly could, like, hey, it's your turn, do you want to go up now? Um, and she literally went like damn. And like I don't want to be mean to people who struggle socially because I it is a struggle, and like I used to be a lot worse, but it just goes to show how important it is to learn that because she's not gonna be able to get a job if she can't get up and say her name in front of eight people.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's it's also just being a well-balanced person. It's always a good thing, and like if you just focus on academics, you also need to socialize.

SPEAKER_01

It is a really big complaint in the IT departments at many universities that yeah, they they know how to code something, but they cannot communicate with anyone else. And trying to get them to I I guess like come out to a party after work, or like if they need to help a front-facing desk job for a day because someone's caught and sick, like they just end up being kind of useless. Yeah. Or like trying to let's say there's a I head of IT that needs to present a new system that's gonna help you uh make your business a lot more flowy, what's the word I'm trying to think of? Express. Yeah. I don't know. Uh efficient. Efficient, that's the one. And you get up to do a keynote in front of your company. It's like if you can't communicate the ideas, you're not gonna be able to sell it. I I don't know if it's Shark Tank or some other show, but there's a there's a quote I've seen from somewhere, or like an idea I've seen from somewhere that presenting the idea is almost more important than the idea itself.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, if you have good marketing, you can convince people your product is good, whether or not it actually is. Yeah. Because I mean it's like with there's a lot of movies out there, if you A, just don't market it, or B, don't market it well, even if it's a great, there's so many movies that are great. The nice guys everyone sees. The Nice Guys is a great example. It wasn't it, I think their marketing budget was just small, and so not a lot of people saw it. I recently watched that movie. It's great. Go watch it. Um yeah, no, I think

Back to Germany

SPEAKER_00

uh being well rounded and balanced. I yeah, I think the culture there was a little bit different. I also think it's because it wasn't like our local school, like the closest school to our house, it's not like, oh, okay, well, school's out. Now you go hang out with your friends because you're all in the same area. I had a one-hour bus drive after school every day. Yeah, and I had like a 30 to 45 minute bus drive. And we all went to different places, and like I would hang out with some people that I lived nearby with. Like I would play soccer and do that kind of thing, but like, yeah, not necessarily. I think the same experience we would have gotten. I also don't necessarily regret that. I think we've had an incredibly unique experience.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I also think just to talk on it, it's been over six years since we've both lived in Germany. It's been nearly 12 since I've moved there. Germany, from what I know, from the people who still live there and when we went back three years ago, it's a lot different to how it used to be. I don't know where you're living. We were in Munich. English used to be like kind of rare to come across like people who are willing to speak English, like at like a bar or shopkeep. Usually a lot of Germans do speak it, but they just kind of don't want to a lot of the time. I feel like now it's become a way more common ever since, like I think after COVID, Munich really opened up and changed quite a bit.

SPEAKER_00

I was thinking just slowly over time, like more and more people were learning it. I think American and English media is pretty popular. So there's a lot of people who just watch it and it's become more of an international language.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely still learn it while you're there, depending on how long you live. Yeah, if you're living there for a year, you can probably get by learning some basic stuff. But if you're planning to be there sort of medium to long term, definitely learn the language as much as you can. But you can still get by with English, I'd say.

SPEAKER_00

I think there's something in it about just not even learning German for the sake of learning the language itself. Obviously, that's good. I think learning more languages are great, but like it could almost help you learn other languages better because now you kind of know the the framework of how to learn a language. Yep. Um so so that's pretty cool. Yeah, let us know your thoughts. Uh it's Willis, I think. Um yeah, it's Willis. Let us know your thoughts uh because I'd be very curious. We were there for I was there for four years, he was there for six. We were there for quite a long time, so we

Final Comments & Outro

SPEAKER_00

have the thoughts on them. Uh but yeah, uh, I'm out of comments. Do you have anything to say before we wrap up, Dan?

SPEAKER_01

Oh god, what's it doing? Oh god. Uh nothing in particular. It's just been it's been nice to see the boy in person. We were planning to maybe do a couple podcasts, but we've just been very busy, so we've been around to one and it's late, so oh well. It is what it is. Uh yeah, we'll be back to regularly regularly. I can't pronounce the R's man. Regularly scheduled programming two weeks from now when I'm back in Australia. You're still here. Yeah. We got some more uh idiots heist videos coming out over the next few months before GTS6, and then hopefully during GTS as well, we'll continue that series. Yeah. Because they're good fun. They're good fun. Yeah, it's been good. Uh if you guys liked seeing this in person, make sure to make us very rich so I can convince Chad to move to Australia.

SPEAKER_00

Good luck with that. Um, or vice versa. Or just give us a lot of money generally. That'd be really cool. Um just generally, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It would be nice.

SPEAKER_00

If you're watching and you happen to be stupid rich and you're like, I don't know what to do with my money.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, if it's between gambling and us, give it to us and then we'll gamble it and double it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we have a better chance of gambling correctly.

SPEAKER_01

We do. Uh we we have gone to two live sports games in the past two weeks, and they both won.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the teams we rooted for are both won, so I'm I think I've like in fully watching games, I've rooted for like four or five teams, and none of them have lost yet, since Dan has been here. I think Dan's my lucky charm, personally. Um so give us the money, maybe you'll see it back. For sure. Maybe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think that's about it. Uh apologies for the garbage audio. I will do my best to make it sound alright. Otherwise, just put it on mute and just look at us the whole time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just stare at us. Could be fun. Put us as a as a long screensaver. Yeah, sure. Alright.

SPEAKER_01

Bye. Peace out, people.
